Hello, I'd like to help. I'm Julienne Derichs, LCPC.
With 29 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor,
the focus of my practice is working with individuals and couples
of all ages, married or not, guiding people towards
having more connected, loving and caring relationships

How We Can Approach Couples Counseling Together:

I view couples counseling as interactive and collaborative. Using a proven research driven approach we focus on getting lasting results. I am involved in the session and will honestly communicate to you what I see, feel and think. My office is a safe space, where problems can be discussed without fear of judgment. Our consultation time is used as a space to try new things, a place where we can explore different styles, interventions and techniques. These can be used to change the destructive patterns in the relationship and create a stronger, more open and meaningful connection.  My years of experience working with couples has shown me that there is an excellent chance that I can not only help you get your relationship back on track, but take you to an even stronger place. One you may not have ever imagined was possible, but was achievable through our couples counseling sessions.

The focus of our work together would be collaborative in nature, meaning there are many directions counseling can take; we will discuss the main options and together agree upon the focus of our work moving forward.

There are typically four main paths we can explore:

Starting fresh with new skills and approaches to being a couple.

        Making amends and forgiveness.

Exploring your family culture and what you bring into your relationship.

Restructuring, uncoupling, separation, divorce, or restructuring.

We can go down all of those paths just not all at once

I take an integrated approach to working with couples which has been informed by trainings in the Gottman Model, with Terry Real from the Relational Life Institute, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Collaborative Divorce Mediation, Collaborative Divorce Coach, and Developmental Couples Therapy at the Couples Institute. All sessions are currently offered via teletherapy from my private office in Highwood, IL

What Brings Couples Into Counseling?

I often hear from couples who are in a bad place...fearful that their relationship is beyond help. Their communications have broken down, trust has been damaged and sex is almost nonexistent. I also frequently see fundamentally strong couples that may be facing a specific crisis and want the aid of a professional counselor.

Partners come into couples counseling or marriage counseling with a diversity of issues to address including communication & conflict resolution, fighting and anger problems, sexual & intimacy issues, identity and role conflict, dependence vs. independence, religion, ethics and values, jealousy, parenting, infidelity, money and finances, addiction, family and in-law struggles, step family issues, gender roles, infertility / adoption, and many more.

All session are currently offered via online video conferencing called teletherapy, so if you have a telephone or a computer and an Internet connection, teletherapy may be an option for you.
Here are some guidelines to help you get started.

Relationships come in all forms: family, friends, co-workers, romantic partners. Counseling can focus on helping to reveal the hidden dynamics in relationships in order to address any stressors impacting these relationships and heal them.
